The Split city museum is one of the places which should not be skipped by visitors who stay in the town for two days or more.
Featuring various exhibitions and plenty of interesting information about the town, the Split city museum is a perfect spot to spend an hour of morning sightseeing.

The museum is situated in Papalic Palace, a romanesque building located inside the Diocletian's Palace, between Split Peristyle, the most famous square in the town, and Golden Gate, the main entrance to the palace.

The price depends on the season and exhibitions. In early 2023 the museum is holding an exhibition related to the 70th anniversary of its foundation. The entrance is free.
The museum works in multiple locations inside the palace.
The entrance fee for the standard exhibition of the museum is 3 euros.

During the winter season the museum works Monday - Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, and from 9 am to 4 pm during weekends.
During the summer season, working hours may be extended.

The museum was opened in 1952. when the first festive exhibition was held. Since then, hundreds of exhibitions have been held related to the tangible and intangible heritage of the city of Split.
Today, the museum has three permanent exhibits and thousands of items in its collection.
Many other museum institutions in Split, like the Emanuel Vidovic Gallery, located near Split Peristyle, and the Basement of Diocletian's Palace are under the management of Split city museum as well.
