Split Peristyle attractions

The Peristyle is an authentic place of ancient Roman culture: one of the rare spots in Europe with so many preserved monuments from the Roman age.
It would be difficult to find a person which would not be amazed by this unique square. I've been so many times there, and every time I see people making a "wow" sound while admiring its architecture.

When you arrive at Peristyle, you will notice Split Cathedral at your left side. It's a monumental building with a bell tower from the Gothic period. Diocletian envisioned that building to be his mausoleum, but Christians later converted it into a church.

In front of you, there will be the basement of the Diocletian's Palace. There you can find stores with souvenirs and artwork.

On your right side, there is a former Roman temple. Diocletian constructed the template in honour of the Roman god Jupiter. Today it's a treasury of the cathedral and ticket office.

Peristyle features a bar and restaurant called LVXOR. They offer food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and drinks. The Peristyle is also the central place where walking tours around the Diocletian's Palace usually begin.

Usually, during the late afternoon, you can see young guys from Split dressed in the clothes and shoes of the Roman guard, which further contributes to the atmosphere of ancient Roman civilization on the square.

The Peristyle is located just near the east entrance to the Diocletian's Palace. You can reach it by walking or by bike. During the peak season, it's the best option to walk, since there are many people in the Palace.

During the months of July and August manifestations of the Split Summer Festival are held on Peristyle. Tickets are available on official website of Split summer festival.
The square is a stage for many other performances and musical events held during the whole year.
During September and October, there are live free performances every night at 20 pm. They are organised by LVXOR coffee bar, which servers food and drinks on the square.

Peristyle can be freely visited any time during day and night since it's a public square in the town.
But if you want to visit the Cathedral of St. Domnius and the treasury, you will have to buy a ticket.
