Supetar is the most urban destination of Brac and the only city on the island. Except for being a famous tourist spot, it's a gate to the whole island and the closest port to the mainland and Split.

Featuring the facilities of both an urban place and a small intimate destination, Supetar is a good choice either for a day visit from Split, or a multi-day vacation.

How to get to Supetar

The most common way of arrival in Supetar and generally on Brac island is the ferry line from Split ferry port.
The price for a ferry ticket is 4.25 euros for one direction. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes.
The ferry features a comfortable salon and a scenic view of Split and nearby areas.
During the summer season, the ferry operates almost every hour. Check the schedule on Jadrolinija's website.

If you go for a multi-day trip to Brac island, you may consider taking a car on the ferry. You will have more freedom in exploring all the interesting villages and tourist spots that Brac provides to its visitors. Almost every village on the island has something to offer.

Supetar is a small charming tourist destination. Its most prominent quality is authenticity - the place preserved the Mediterranean atmosphere, unlike other more popular tourist spots in Croatia which became too commercial.
You can feel the Mediterranean vibe while talking to people and observing their emotions towards their home town.
The architecture of the houses and buildings is unique as well - all the construction is made of so-called Brac's stone, which is excavated on the south part of the island.

The Brac's stone is one of the most recognizable symbols of the town. Many people from the island are taught the art of creating stone shapes from an early age.
While walking through the town, you will notice that almost every house is its own small masterpiece of art - there are no boring generic buildings.
Brac's stone is a construction material used not only on the island but in other Croatian towns and abroad.
For example, the famous Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik, which is considered to be a gothic masterpiece of art, was built of stone excavated and transported from Brac.

The most prominent tourist spot and gathering place in Supetar is the main square located in the vicinity of the ferry port. The square consists of the parish church of St. Mary's annunciation, clock tower, bell tower, and elementary school.
The church was rebuilt a few times during history. The latest upgrade dates from the 19th century.
Entrance to the church is free. You will notice a few nice masterpieces of art inside - paintings and sculptures mostly from the baroque.

Supetar's Riva is another place of tourist interest. Riva is a truly charming spot and an enjoyable place to take a romantic or family walk. Many tourists and visitors sit in one of the coffee bars on Riva while enjoying their favourite drink and a nice sea view.

The Supetar Summer ("Supetarsko lito") is the most important manifestation in the town. It consists of various concerts, performances, and other events, which are held every year in the period of June - September. It's appealing to both domestic and foreign visitors to the place.
The events usually take place on the main town square, in the parish church, Rendic's gallery, and on Riva.
