We all know that the third wave of coronavirus pandemic is ceasing, and it's time to plan a vacation.

Makarska has always been known as a top south Croatian destination, and we expect there will be a huge interest for visiting the place in 2021, after historically bad 2020.

I took a walk around the town on May 25, 2021, to check the atmosphere, and if there is any tourist activity.

Walk on Makarska Riva

After only a short walk on Riva, I could notice everyone in the town is doing hard work to prepare for a tourist season, which should start in June 2021. Coffee shops, restaurants, and bars are open already, and they are ready to receive visitors. Tourist workers are expecting a good 2021 season: everyone is tired of the pandemic, isolation and closure, and all those who can afford a vacation in 2021 will go for it.

When you walk on Makarska Riva these days, you can already notice there are many people; most of them are locals and domestic visitors, while only a few are foreign visitors. I expect their number will be increased after June 1, and reopening in Europe.

Beaches are still mainly empty; there are only a few courageous spring swimmers who are not afraid of cold water.

If you are thinking whether to visit Makarska or not in 2021, I recommend you to do so. I believe there will be many tourists, especially in July and August. If you want an intimate experience of your trip, then you should visit the place in June, when it will not be too much crowded yet.
